I had the opportunity to celebrate my cultural heritage with Saje Wellness as we partnered to offer live calligraphy for their customers. It was an honor to join them at their Fillmore store, sharing this art with both the staff and guests. Red envelopes play a significant role in many Asian cultures, and I loved celebrating and sharing this tradition with everyone.

During the event, I personalized guests items and red envelopes with calligraphy and painted illustrations. The red and gold colors hold special meaning for the New Year – red symbolizes good fortune and happiness, while gold represents wealth and prosperity. The Chinese character “福,” meaning fortune and good luck, is often displayed upside down to symbolize the arrival of blessings.

Seeing Asian culture celebrated more widely truly brings me joy. Although not everyone celebrates Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year, guests still embrace the experience of live calligraphy and taking home something personalized.
